We had almost 50 people turn out at the Vermont Bikepackers + Bikepacking Roots :: Community Campout last weekend! Many "never evers" and bikepacking-curious folks, as well as seasoned riders, spent the weekend camping and taking on type-2 adventure rides out of our base camp at Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center in Goshen. We couldn't have asked for better weather.
Folks congregated Friday evening, most in cars but a few biking up to BHOC from as far as Burlington. There was pizza and live music across the road at the Blueberry Hill Inn - a Friday night staple for locals. We had an unreal sunset and most stayed up maybe a bit too late.
The next day, the group set off on a ride through the Green Mountain National Forest with the classic panoply of Vermont riding, from smooth gravel roads to mucky hike-a-bike. The mood was definitely: "we are in this together." Also: "drink lots of water."
Saturday evening, we gathered inside the outdoor center for group presentations by local organizers, makers, and other representatives of groups who build community. Saturday night got chilly -- good sleeping weather -- and Sunday morning there were reports of frozen frost, even.
Sunday, the remaining participants took on a comparatively mellow ride around Hogback mountain, up to the famous lookout from the blueberry patch.
Thanks to all who joined, to the volunteers who helped support with logistics, and to the board members of Vermont Bikepackers and Bikepacking Roots who pieced this event together. Already looking forward to the next one.
